Come Home to Yourself to Make of Your Parts a Whole
Finding a place to call home can be a life’s quest for many of us.
This is because we will only really feel at home when we can be at home with ourselves in our own bodies.
To allow the mind and heart, the body and spirit to come into alignment is to gradually re-birth into the person that we genuinely are.
It gives us room to move.
It allows us to more fully become the movers and shakers in our lives, as opposed to being moved about or shaken by elements in our external worlds….or the footprints these elements have left behind inside the body, the place we have a right to feel most at home.
Many elements of traditional mindfulness practice are designed to help us to “synchronize mind and body”, to more fully be where we are when we’re there.
“Shamatha” meditation practice, or “calm abiding”, is the practice of allowing the mind to gradually, increasingly relax into its own inherent nature by following the breath, for example. Can we allow the mind to become aware of the breath as it moves in and out of the body? This is one way of helping the mind and body to come more fully into alignment.
There are many ways of helping us to come home to ourselves through our experience of our embodiment, however.
The invitation for the third of “7 Ways to Take a Deep Breath” is to permit a professional who works with some element of body or mind to accompany us for part of that journey.
Massage was, for a long time, not part of the benefits package for faculty at the university where I work. So many of us celebrated when it was added to the benefits package quite recently.
How many of us actually use it? It is a bit like having a gym membership: it is very good to have; it is even more useful when we use it.
Students at my university have massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, and time with a dietitian or a counsellor also as part of their health plan.
Do you have a health plan that has options for you?
Can you integrate this self-care into your monthly budget?
Can you find a creative way of some kind to increase your resources by the amount that you would need?
Body is a place to call home.
Comment below, and let us know how it goes!!
Wishing you joy,
